I'm going to try to post some pics in the hope that one of you Schecter nerds can help ID what I've got here.
His best guess was that it was a '76-'79 guitar made up mostly of extremely early Schecter parts, possibly pre-dating their catalog and its numbering system. While he said he was certain the guitar was "90% Schecter" (the "wrong" bits: 1970s Fender tuning keys, mystery lead PU, mystery volume/tone control panel), he was flummoxed by the model numbers that there were on the neck, and that there weren't in the body. They also turned out to be unknown to Kelly Cash, a prominent Dallas-area guitar wizard and former early-80s Schecter employee. All Schecters made in the Van Nyus era have a serial beginning with an S. Cant be from 81/82 beacause in 82 they were still located in Van Nyus, California.
Here's the mystery, though: there are no serial/model numbers in the heel joint of the body, and the serial/model numbers in the neck are unknown to me. : Hi - I own a most probably very similar schecter C.A.R. In addition to the clearly visible Schecter external components (bridge, neck PU, black/aluminum pickguard), the two-piece mahogany body was branded with the Schecter logo in the neck PU cavity, and the mystery-wood neck was similarly branded where the sun don't shine. It smelled like the real deal to me, and it played like buttah, so I plunked down my $300 and walked out the door with her.įlash forward 10 years, and I finally got the spare time to take the beast apart. Probably 85 or later, in which case the original, covered pickups wouldve been made by Schaller - not Van Nuys-made Superocks, like Townshend used (in addition to their predecessor, the Z+) in his earlier, Van Nuys Schecters. They thought it might be a Schecter parts-o-caster, but weren't sure. Thats from the Dallas-era, but not from the beginning of that period (which would be 84). About 10 years ago, I got a call from my favorite guitar shop to let me know they had an unusual instrument I might be interested in.
